Back in 2008 when Hyundai unveiled the Genesis, they were planning on taking on the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series. Even though everything was ok for a while, the german models managed to update their models which Hyundai couldn't afford to let it unanswered. As a result, they've replied back with a facelifted version in 2012.
In order to maintain their position as a worthy opponent, they're looking to work even harder in order to bring out their second-generation Genesis. The model will be making its debut next year at the North American International Auto Show which takes place in Detroit.
Even though it took them two years in order to bring the new generation, they have one of the shortest production cycles out there which should help Hyundai keep up with the competition.
Unfortunately Hyundai didn't release any further details on the Genesis but as you can see from the renderings, they're certainly thinking of a new design language.
As far as the drivetrain goes, the Genesis will be mounted with the same albeit updated engines which will be having the fuel economy and power improved.
